More Than Just An EPC
Most EPC providers issue the certificate and leave it there.
Green Squirrel can help you understand what the certificate means and what practical improvements may be suitable for your property.
Depending on the home, possible areas for consideration may include:
- Heat pumps
- Battery storage
- Electrical upgrades
- Solar PV
- Heating controls
- EV charging
- Insulation and fabric improvements
- Hot water system improvements
- Heating system replacement
Measure it. Understand it. Improve it.
We will not pressure you into buying additional work. If you would like further advice, our home energy team can discuss the options separately.
Home Energy Review
Understand what your EPC means An EPC provides useful information, but it does not always explain which improvements should be considered first.

- Solar PV and battery opportunities
- Possible order of improvements

Green Squirrel combines domestic energy assessment with practical renewable-energy and electrical expertise. That means we can help with:
- EPC
- Technical assessment
- Ongoing servicing
- Energy advice
- Heat pump, solar, battery or electrical installation
- Post-installation EPC where appropriate
We do not believe an EPC should be confusing or overly sales-focused. Our role is to provide a clear assessment and help you understand your options.
Thinking about a heat pump?
An EPC can be a useful first step when considering a heat pump, but it is not a substitute for a full technical assessment.
A heat pump installation requires a separate heat-loss calculation, system design and property assessment. Green Squirrel can provide the wider process, which may include:
- Domestic EPC assessment
- Heat-loss assessment
- System design
- Installation
- Ongoing servicing
- Initial energy review
- Heat pump suitability review
- Quotation
- Commissioning
- Post-installation EPC where appropriate

Heat pump, solar and battery advice
Your EPC may identify areas where your property could potentially perform better.
Green Squirrel can provide separate advice and quotations for:
Heat pumps
A heat pump may be suitable for some homes currently using gas, oil, LPG or electric heating. Suitability depends on the property, heat demand, system design and homeowner requirements.
Battery storage
A battery can store electricity generated by solar panels or, depending on the system and tariff, electricity purchased from the grid for later use.
EPC offer
Your EPC cost may be credited against qualifying Green Squirrel work
Where available, customers who proceed with a qualifying Green Squirrel renewable-energy installation may be able to have the cost of their EPC credited against the project.
Ask about the current offer when booking.
Terms, conditions and qualifying installations apply.
Solar PV
Solar panels can generate electricity from your roof and may help reduce your reliance on grid electricity.
Electrical upgrades
Electrical improvements may be needed when preparing a property for a heat pump, solar PV, battery storage, EV charging or other electrical technologies.
An EPC assessor will not carry out a hard sell during your assessment. If you would like further advice, simply ask and our energy team can contact you separately.
Heat Pump Servicing
All heat pumps require regular maintenance to keep them running efficiently and performing at their best. We offer a range of maintenance plans to suit all types of heat pump systems, helping to maintain performance, reliability and efficiency all year round..
EPCs before and after energy improvements
If you are planning energy improvements, an EPC can help provide a record of the property’s energy performance before work begins.
A follow-up EPC may then help demonstrate the effect of completed improvements. This can be useful for:
- Landlords
- Retrofit projects
- Solar PV installations
- Heating upgrades
- Homeowners planning to sell
- Heat pump installations
- Battery storage projects
- Wider energy-efficiency improvements
Green Squirrel can provide EPC assessments alongside its wider renewable-energy and electrical services, where appropriate.
What happens during a domestic EPC assessment?
During the visit, the assessor collects information about the property that affects its energy performance. This may include:
- Property dimensions
- Walls and roof
- Windows and glazing
- Hot water system
- Renewable technologies
- Age and construction
- Insulation
- Heating system
- Lighting
- Other relevant energy features
The information is entered into approved assessment software to calculate the property’s energy rating. The completed EPC shows the current rating and recommendations for possible improvements.
Please make sure the assessor can access relevant rooms, the heating controls, the loft hatch where applicable and any other areas needed to complete the assessment.

I honestly can’t recommend Green Squirrel Energy highly enough! From the very first survey, I felt like I was dealing with people who genuinely cared about doing the job properly rather than just making a sale. After discovering our roof had been poorly installed by another company, they took the time to explain everything clearly, showing us exactly what was wrong and why it needed replacing. There was never any pressure—just honest, professional advice that gave us complete confidence in their recommendations. The workmanship has been absolutely outstanding. Our new roof looks beautiful, and the integrated solar panels are so sleek that they blend in perfectly. The team also installed a Tesla Powerwall and handled all of the complicated electrical upgrades, including liaising with the DNO and sorting out the export limitation process. They made what could have been a very stressful experience completely hassle-free. Every member of the team was friendly, respectful and incredibly hardworking. They kept us informed throughout the project, left everything tidy each day, and their attention to detail was second to none. We now have total peace of mind knowing our home is protected by a properly installed, high-quality roof, and it’s wonderful seeing our electricity bills reduce while generating our own clean energy. If you’re looking for a company that values quality, honesty and customer service, Green Squirrel Energy is the one to choose. Thank you to everyone involved—you’ve completely transformed our home, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to family and friends!Posted on Google![]()

Recently had a Worcester Bosch air conditioning system installed and I'm really happy with it, installation was carried out professionally, with great attention to detail. Anthony, Alan and the guys were great from start to finish, they took pride in delivering a first-class installation. Had it for over a week now and It’s made a huge difference to my room and the upstairs area, delighted with both its performance and the quality of the installation. A special mention also goes to the Green Squirrel Energy Project Manager, who was communicative throughout, kept me informed every step and worked hard to find the right solution during a period when there was an equipment shortage. Especially in the summer where there is demand and waiting lists elsewhere, they gave me a date within 2 weeks and kept their promise, their commitment to customer service and problem-solving really stood out. Overall, an excellent experience! Highly recommend them to anyone considering air conditioning installationPosted on Google![]()

We’re delighted with the result and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Green Squirrel Energy. The quality and attention to detail has been outstanding.Posted on Google![]()

Outstanding Air Conditioning Installation in High Legh – A Five-Star Experience. We recently had air conditioning installed in our family home in High Legh by Green Squirrel Energy, and we genuinely couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. From the very first enquiry, the team were professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. They took the time to understand our home, our needs as a family, and how we wanted to use the system throughout the year. Nothing felt rushed or pushed – just honest advice and clear guidance. The installation itself was carried out to an exceptionally high standard. The engineers were punctual, respectful of our home, and worked with real care and attention to detail. Every aspect of the job was completed with precision, and the finish is absolutely flawless. You can tell straight away that they take real pride in their workmanship. What really stood out to us was their reliability. Everything happened exactly when they said it would – from initial survey to installation day. Communication was excellent throughout, and we always felt informed and confident in the process. The system itself has transformed our home. It’s quiet, efficient, and provides perfect comfort for the whole family, whether we’re cooling down in the summer or adding a bit of warmth in the colder months. When my gas boiler broke down and was not worth repairing I knew it was time to investigate an air source heat pump. I have a dormer bungalow built in 1962. 5 months before I had installed a new insulated roof, solar panels and a 9kW battery so a heat pump is in line with my eco values. I had 3 quotes and each one suggested that a different level of work was required concerning changing the pipework and radiators. Alan from Green Squirrel’s approach made the most sense to me. He was recommended to me by Octopus. From the beginning he was highly attentive. He understands the importance of the quality of the install in order for the heat pump to work well. Alan invested many hours in the planing stage before I gave him the job. He appreciated the huge financial investment so was keen for me to understand how this system works and to ensure that my home was made suitable. The whole team were outstanding and the work was completed in the time quoted. As I needed new pipework there was some disruption but all was made as easy as possible. I felt that both Alan and Simon, the engineer, really wanted me to be happy with all the work and for everything to work well. So far the heat pump is working perfectly though I have not had my first winter yet. I have felt very happy with the after install service as Alan has kept in touch and encouraged me to contact him with any questions or issues. I have no difficulty in recommending their work.Posted on Google![]()

I recently had a full renewable energy system installed by Green Squirrel Energy at my house in Lymm. I first reached out to Alan at Green Squirrel about 9 months before I actually needed anyone on site. It was right at the start of a full house renovation and, even at that early stage, I could tell they were the right fit. Alan didn’t just give me a generic quote; he went away, had the proper calculations done, and worked through a solid plan for the property. We had a bit of back and forth on the final design—which I really appreciated—because it meant we landed on a setup that actually suited the house rather than a "one size fits all" solution. The project was massive: Solar, Powerwall 3, a full heating system, including a heat pump and underfloor heating throughout the downstairs. The installation was handled by Simon and his team, and they were great. If you’ve ever done a big renovation, you know how much of a headache it is coordinating different trades, but the Green Squirrel guys worked brilliantly with my builder to keep things on track. They weren't just in and out; the quality of the finish was clearly important to them. Now that the dust has settled and the longer days are finally here, the system is performing exactly as Alan promised. The house is perfectly comfortable year-round (the underfloor heating is a game-changer), and seeing the solar and battery kick in now the sun is out is a great feeling If you want renewable tech installed by a local firm that are knowledgeable, high quality and actually seem to care, I’d highly recommend Green Squirrel.Posted on Google![]()

Alan and his team did a fantastic job for us. The advice was sound, the work well planned and expertly delivered by considerate professionals. There was none of the common heavy sales patter, instead considered unpressurised advice. Alan went out of his way to advise on any (occasional and unavoidable) changes to plan. He also managed the project between the different parts of his team (e.g. roofers, electricians, etc.). I would have no hesitation in recommending him and the Green Squirrel team.Posted on Google![]()

Very good advice and support from Green Squirrel Energy. Background to this - heat pump installed in 2012 (fairly early adopter). The heat pump has always worked ok - in my view - but I have not been so confident in the control system. We have struggled to get house warm. With increasing frustration with the lack of F2F support from original installer I searched online to see if anyone locally and found Green Squirrel Energy from Knutsford (we live close). Contacted them more in hope than expectation - but they quickly phoned back and I engaged them to do a diagnostic on the system. Simon came to visit and they came up with a plan to improve - which wasn't going to be cheap...but I was up for that. Credit to them - they discussed amongst themselves and came to the view that although their proposal was perhaps ideal, it was difficult to guarantee the outcome given the original install. They then came up with a more cost effective solution with which I agreed to proceed. Credit to them that they didn't try to sell me the most expensive solution.... The solution was a new (Hive) control system which Simon and their electrician installed in a morning. I have also installed Hive TRV's on all the radiators. (I should also mention that as part of this work I have also undertaken a DIY change to 2 downstairs radiators and have installed a Strada Hybrid - so I also need to give a 'shout out' to David and his team at the Radiator Centre, Leamington Spa) Alan and Simon also took the time to educate me on how to get the best out of air source heat pump system by leaving it running 24/7 - I was treating it like a gas fired central heating system, but no-one had ever told me different. The result has been transformational - we now have a comfortably warm home for the first time in 13 years. Yes it's costing some money to run, but we were spending a fair amount before and weren't warm... I am very pleased with the service and support we have had from Alan and Simon and give them respect for coming up with a more cost effective solution when they could have sold me something more expensive.Posted on Google![]()

I used Green Squirrel as a one stop shop for the design and installation of my underfloor heating system combined with an Octopus air source heat pump. The whole process was very efficiently managed . The installers and technical leads, Simon Fagan and Andrew Hassell worked very efficiently on the install, showing me how everything worked and demonstrating the Octopus app (which is, like everything I have dealt with from Octopus, absolutely fab!). I am looking forward to a very cosy winter in my new house. Many thanks to you all.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
